Christof D. Bentele,
born in May 1965, worked with the Gerling Konzern in Cologne and New York and, after an insurance apprenticeship and law school, joined the American International Group (AIG) in Frankfurt. Since 1995 he has headed the "Crisis Management Department" in Germany and is also the profit centre manager responsible for Switzerland and Austria. Bentele's speciality is contaminated products insurance.

Dr. Piya Bhirom Bhakdi
was born on January 30, 1942 in Bangkok. He studied at St. Gallen Schule in Switzerland and then at the Schlee Schule in Hamburg before going on to take brewing studies at the Doemens Lehr- und Versuchsanstalt for brewers and maltsters. After graduation he worked for the Boon Rawd Brewery. In 1988 he was awarded an honoray doctor title in engineering by the Chiang Mai University and in 1992 the doctor title honoris causa in natural sciences by the Kasetsat University in recognition of his work for the promotion of agriculture. Dr. Piya Bhirom Bhakdi is President and Chairman of the Executive Board of the Boon Rawd Brewery Co. Ltd. This brewery produces the famous Singha-Beer (more than 6 million hl) and has a market share in Thailand of more than 85%.

Dr. Paul Bösken-Diebels
, Co-owner of Privatbrauerei Diebels and Speaker for the Management. Born 1960 in Meerbusch near Düsseldorf, he is the fourth generation to manage this family business founded in 1878. The Privatbrauerei Diebels is one of the largest breweries in Germany, the brandname Diebels Alt is among the top-ten of German beer brands. After "A-levels" he studied economics at the University of Münster. Received his doctorate in 1989 and collected well-founded brewery experience with other companies. In 1991 he took charge of the Privatbrauerei Diebels in the position of Marketing Director.

David Bruce,
founder of the world's largest chain of brewpubs. Over 30 years ago, he learnt to brew with Courage before becoming Head Brewer of Theakston's Brewery where he brewed the notorious Old Peculiar. After developing various live entertain-ment pubs and clubs, in 1979 he started Bruce's Brewery at the Goose & Firkin, the first pub in London to brew its own beer in this century. In 1988 David Bruce sold his Firkin brewpubs, of which there are now more than 100 in the U.K. owned by Allied Domecq International. Within two years his international brewery investment company, Brew Securities PLC, was again investing in brewpubs from Paris to Seattle via London and New York.

August A. Busch III.,
chairman and president of Anheuser-Busch Companies, Inc., was educated at the University of Arizona and as a brewmaster at the Siebel Institute of Technology. He joined Anheuser-Busch in 1957. Working his way through the brewing and operations divisions, he joined the board in 1963 and assumed company leadership in 1975. Under his direction, the company's share of the domestic beer market has grown to 45 from 23 percent.

Peter Camps
is brewmaster and Executive Vice President of Celis Brewery, Austin/Texas. As a young man in Belgium Peter Camps learned his craft from his father-in-law and internationally renowned brewing legend Pierre Celis. In 1992, the family founded Celis Brewery in Austin, Texas. Since then, Peter has helped Celis become a leader in the renaissance of Belgian-style brewing in the United States. The Celis Brewery now brews five award-winning beers, distributed in seventeen states.

Jerome Chicvara
graduated from the Evergreen State College, Olympia WA with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications. Jerome is a product of the three-tiered beverage industry: retail, distribution, manufacturing. He began as a wine steward and retail consultant before becoming a sales executive at the distribution level. Jerome now applies much of the knowledge he gained at the beverage retail and distribution levels to his involvement in Full Sail Brewing Company as Director of Sales and Marketing.

Erich Dederichs,
born 1949, has been press speaker and Manager of the Deutschen Brauer-Bundes in Bonn, the leading association of the German brewing industry, since 1992. At the same time he is Manager of the Gesellschaft für Öffentlichkeitsarbeit for the German brewing industry, an organisation whose objective is brand-comprehensive public relations work for German beer. Before working with the Brauer-Bund he worked for twelve years for the press and information office of the German parliament in Bonn. Erich Dederichs is a qualified junior and high school teacher and has a diploma in education.

was born in Zambia. Prior to joining Seagram in 1992, Mr. Espey held various management positions at United Distillers and International Distillers & Vintners. Mr. Espey began his career in the grocery industry with the SPAR retail group in 1965 as the Assistant Marketing Manager. He entered the beverage industry as a Special Projects Executive with Coca Cola in 1968. Cathy Ewing,
Vice President Association of Brewers, has consulted with small business owners for over 10 years and continues to work with small brewery owners as the vice president of the Association of Brewers. The Association, through its divisions, the Institute for Brewing Studies, the American Homebrewers Association, Brewer's Publications and its affiliated company, the Great American Beer Festival, educates professional brewers, homebrewers and beer enthusiasts about quality brewing.

Charles S. Finkel
has had one of the strongest influences on the American beer scene since founding Merchant du Vin Corporation in 1978. He pioneered the concept of offering authentic beers that represent each of the major brewing styles. He acquired Liberty Malt Supply, one of America's oldest home brew suppliers, in 1988 and founded The Pike Brewing Company in 1989. As a graphic artist his award-winning package designs and advertising can be seen worldwide.

Dan Gordon
After receiving his degree in brewing engineering in 1987 from Weihenstephan, Dan Gordon co-founded the first Gordon Biersch Brewery Restaurant in Palo Alto, California with his partner Dean Biersch. Currently there are Gordon Biersch Brewery Restaurants in San Jose, San Francisco and Pasadena California, Honolulu, Hawaii and 2 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Gordon Biersch recently built a brewery with 100,000 hl./yr. capacity to fulfill the demand for bottled beer.

John Hickenlooper
was born and raised in Philadelphia and attended Wesleyan University in Middletown, Conn., where he received a bachelor's degree in English in 1974 and a masters degree in geology in 1980. Hickenlooper moved to Denver in 1981 and worked for five years as an exploration geologist for Buckhorn Petroleum. After the collapse of the oil business, he spent two years creating the Wynkoop Brewing Co., the first brewpub in the state of Colorado. The Wynkoop produced over 5,008 barrels of beer in 1995 and is the largest brewpub in North America.

Michael Jackson
alias "The Beer Hunter", is internationally recognised as the leading writer on beer, according to The Encyclopedia of Beer. In a recent front-page profile in The Wall Street Journal described him as "the world's leading beer critic". He is Director-at-Large of North American Guild of Beer Writers and regarded as one of the fathers of the American micro-brewery movement, even though he lives in London.

As Manager of the database development group he initiated and founded the INOVIS company in 1985. Sincethen he is Manager of INOVIS, which specialises in electronic offline and online catalogues on CD-ROM and in Internet. Dr. Karszt has also initiated a series of electronic commercial Internet projects in trade and industry and, at the moment, is service provider for numerous online shopping systems as well as closed EDI partner programmes.

He has been with the firm since 1982 and is based in the Munich office. He is specialised in the food and consumer products industry. Thomas Koch
Member of the Board of the KHS Maschinen- und Anlagenbau AG since 1.12.1994. He was also responsible for sales management. KHS is world leader in the manufacture of filling and packaging plants for the beer and beverage industries.

His present position, to which he was appointed in 1992, is President & Chief Executive Officer, Foster's Brewing Group Limited. A major initiative was taken in 1993 with the company's vigorous entry into the booming Chinese beer market. The company now operates three joint venture brewing businesses covering the three main population centres - Tianjin-Beijing in the north, Shanghai in the centre and Guangdong province in the south.

Keisaku Manabe
(1930) studied at the Law Department of the University of Tokyo, Tokyo, Japan. He joined Kirin Brewery in 1955. After he worked at the Personnel Department and Kobe Sales Branch, he was promoted to General Manager of the Kobe Sales Branch in 1983 and General Manager of the Secretary Department in 1986.
He had been President of Kirin Brewery for four years when in 1996, he was appointed Chairman. Mr. Manabe is Chairman of Kirin Australia Pty. Ltd. (Australia) and Chairman of Coca-Cola Bottling Company of Northern New England (USA). He is also Executive Member of the Board of Directors, Japan Federation of Economic Organizations (Japan).

Dr. Albrecht A.C. von Müller
born in Munich 1954. After the study of philosophy, physics and social sciences and a PhD on "Time and Logic" he worked at the Max-Planc-Institute for Physics.
At the same time he held lecture and guest fellowships at the University of Munich, Harvard University and MIT. In 1989 he was appointed as director of the European Centre for International Security (EUCIS).
Since then he has been scientific advisor to many European and non-European governments. Since 1994 he has led Think Tools GmbH in Starnberg and acts as consultant for many companies and conglomerates world-wide using "Think Tools".

Edward Mc Nally
was born in Lethbridge, Alberta on July 18, 1925. In 1951 McNally received Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Law degrees from the University of British Columbia. He practiced law until 1982, starting a private law practices in 1960 specialising in oil and gas. Edward has acted as director of the Yorkshire Trust Co. and the Western Brewers Association. In 1984 he incorporated Big Rock Brewery.

Charlie Papazian
is the president and founder of the Association of Brewers. He has guided the development of the Association's four divisions: The American Homebrewers Association, The Institute for Brewing Studies, The Great American Beer Festival and Brewers Publications. In addition he founded the International Beer Marketers Sympo-sium and the World Beer Cup. He graduated from the University of Virginia in 1972 with a bachelor's of science degree in nuclear engineering and initiated work with the Association of Brewers in 1978. He began brewing in 1970 and continues to brew lagers, ales and honey meads regularly.

Hans Peters
(49) Managing Director of the Brauerei Peters & Bambeck/Monheim has managed his small private brewery between Cologne and Düsseldorf, which this year celebrates its 150-year jubilee, for more than twenty years. Consistent limitation to gastronomy and keg beer has enabled him to survive in the hard-fought competition. More recently he has concentrated on the creation of Peters Brauhäusern, which are managed individually as profit centres.

Frank H. Rosenkranz
is Associate Managing Director of Kroll Associates Deutschland GmbH, which has been located in Frankfurt am Main since mid 1996.
He has many years' experience in the areas of risk management, security audits and management consulting.
As managing director of a US risk management company he was responsible for the development of personal protection programmes for German executives abroad. Furthermore, in his position as senior auditor at PepsiCo, Purchase, White Plains, Frank Rosenkranz held responsibility for the implementation of security audits of their world-wide subsidiaries. He is a member of the American Society of Industrial Security (ASIS).

In 1973, after several practices concerning budgeting in the Netherlands and concerning brewery knowledge in Germany, he entered the Gulpener Bierbrouwerij, Distilleerderij en Azijnfabriek. In 1980, Paul Rutten was also appointed to be general director of the Holding Gulpener BV a holding company with participation in a soft drinks company and a wholesale trade-importer of special beers. He is supervisory director of several companies in the food and beverage industry and non-executive member of the Board of Rabobank Nederland.

Harald Schmidt
began work in 1964 after studying business management witih Biotest AG/pharmaceutical industry. Since 1990 with the GfK/Nuremberg. Since 1995, after a two-year stay in the UK during which time he built up a retail panel and carried out other international business, director of the GfK Panel Services GmbH. At the moment Schmidt manages both the IRI/GfK Retail Services and the GfK Consumer Panel Services GmbH.

Jahrgang 1958, is journalist and beer publicist in Vienna. During extensive study trips he has gained comprehensive knowledge of beer styles and the history of brewing as well as modern trends of the brewing scene. Paul Shipman
founded the Redhook Ale Brewery in 1981, with the premise that beer in the United States could be made while following the Reinheitsgebot. While working in the wine industry, he saw breweries popping up on the West Coast because of the growing demand for imported beers with more complex flavour profiles than most national brands. Paul's vision of selling based on a reputation of consistent quality was and still is with the finest ingredients available.

Carol and Ed Stoudt
own a very sucessful brewpub in Adamstown, Pennsylvania, a township originally founded by Germans. Thanks to the very high quality of their beers they have won the most medals at the Great American Festival - gold medals in particular. Demand for beer from their brewpub led to contract brewing of their beer in bottles. Brewing by itself could be boring so a bakery was also incorporated. "Stoudtburg Village" in style of a German village in the 16th century is also a great success.

From 1968 to 1991 he worked in different commercial and management positions with Philps Electronics in the Netherlands, Sweden, Norway, Germany, Austria and the United States.
